18.5/12.7 Discarding Sabot

The 18.5/12.7mm discarding sabot shell, sold under the name 'Diablo', is a high velocity slug designed to penetrate light armor or vehicle and still deliver lethal damage to the target. Three variant are prduced, differing only in the composition of the projectile: hard lead, tungsten and depleted uranium. Tungsten and depleted uranium rounds are typically restricted items, limited to police and/or military.

Because of the subcaliber, aerodynaic shape of the projectile, the diablo is able to achieve a much higher muzzle velocity when compared with standard shotgun slugs. The hardened slug is able to easily transit the bodywork of a typical passenger vehicle, or penetrate several centimeters into the drive system or gearing.

The diablo features high lethality due to its large cross section and tendency to break into two pieces at the waist, creating two seperate wound tracks.
