MG-5 Light Machinegun
The MG-5 light machinegun is representative of belt-fed machineguns chambered for light, assault rifle caliber rounds and designed for squad level support. The MG-5 is constructed of steel stamping and polymer, and weighs only 5.2 kg. Despite cosmetic similarities with the MG-2 GPMP, the MG-5 was designed specifically around the 5.5x45mm service cartridge, and while operation is identicle, parts are not interchangeable.
A unique feature of this weapon is that it employs a cyclic rate reducer that allows the firer to select 2 rates of fire, 600rpm or 1200 rpm, depending on the tactical requirements. The weapon is normally loaded with 100 rnd belts, typically stored in an ammunition hopper attached beneath the receiver. It is fitted with a bipod, but features MilTech standard weapons mount interface, which allows it to be attached to a variety of ground and vehicle mounts.
The MG-5 has proven to be particularly rugged and reliable in adverse conditions, and is easily operated by a single soldier.
