Flechette Rifle

The Solomani State Industries flechette rifle represents a highly effective, low-tech low-cost alternative to the gauss rifle. The flechette rifle fires a 2mm fin stabilized dart at velocities in excess of 1500 meters per second. The weapon fire either single shots or 3-round burst at a rate of about 2000 rounds per minute. The weapons is composed of polymer and alloy components, with a 40 mm smoothbore carbon-fiber reinforced ceramic barrel.

No longer in general military service with Solomani forces, the Confederaton goverment and SolSec have provided millions of these rifles to sympathetic or anti-Imperial worlds. The unique nature of the ammunition requires sophisticated, large scale manufacturing in order to be cost effective, thus requiring client states to be reliant on the Confederation for resupply.

This design, though considered 'obsolete' by Imperial and Solomani forces, continues to be widely used throughout the rim, and large quatity are know to have been ship as far as the Spinward Marches. The Marder corporation on Jeghe/REGINA is one of several spinward companies now known to be producing spare parts and ammunition for this rifle in limited quantities.

Despite the high energy ammunition used by this rifle, it has proved to be an extremely robust design, with examples still in services despite having fired over 100,000 rounds.

Notes:
This relatively simple and robust rifle is common in the rim and likely to be found anywhere. Manufactured in the billions by Solomani State Industries, after they were replaced in service by the G-100 gauss rifle, they were given away by the ton to friendly states.

The flechette rifle remains in service with the Elite Solomani CRI, who prefer it to the G-100 due to it's known reliability and lack of electronic signature.

The flechette rifle suffers from extreme muzzle blast (hence the muzzle supressor) and can generate significant heat after extended firing. Unlike gauss weapons, the flechette rifle require at least a trace atmoshere to stabilize the projectiles.
