Marder Light Rifle

7x45mm

The Marder light rifle was developed specifically for for use on worlds possessing relatively low tech industrial capability and is characterised by durability and ease of maintenance. The operation is by simple retarded blowback and all parts are in subassemblies. The weapon is relatively light for its class and has a well deserved reputation for utter reliability. The action is made up of a relatively small number of simple, rugged parts, and the weapon is highly accurate and well balanced. The Light Rifle fires the 7x45 intermediate round, which is effective against poit targets out to 800 meters.

The receiver is a titanium investment casting and is relatively long due to the light rifle's downward ejection, making this weapon suitable for both right and left handed operators. The barrel is hammer-forged, and the barrel/fore end assembly can be removed without tools for portability.

Provision is made for mounting of telescopic, night vision or electronic sights, and the light rifle is frequently employed by snipers.

Notes:
The light rifle has found favor with many military services that prefer a more traditional rifle. The light rifle is available in two versions. The military model has a matte finish, composite furniture and is fitted with a bayonet lug and grenade launcher spigot. It is normally issued with a 20-round detachable magazine.

A civilian version is also available, having wood furniture, no bayonette lug or grenade spigot, and normally sold with a five round magazine.

Magazines and parts are interchangeable between the two versions.
