SURF Gun, Model S-22

Manufacturer: Military Technologies, LIC

The ultimate development of the shotgun, the SURF gun fires a 15mm cartridge containing 50 2mm staballoy darts. The high rate of fire of the SURF gun generates a cloud of darts, creating a large cone-shaped lethal zone. The large number of needle like darts are highly effective against armor, due to their ability to abrade it away, much like sandblasting. Unfortunately, the SURF gun suffers from extreme muzzle flash, excessive noise and recoil, and prodigious ammunition consumption. A 75 rnd ammunition cassette will last just over one second in continuous firing. A trained gunner can usually get about 3 bursts from a magazine.

A 75 round ammunition cassette is inserted horizontally below the barrel. Reloading is slow, requiring 2 turns, or 3 if the firer is evading. The SURF gun is equipped with a quick change barrel, which requires 2 turns to change. Barrels normally last through 10 magazines

Notes:

This weapon first gained prominence as an arm of the elite Solomani CRI (Conditioned Reflex Infantry) battalions. While horribly lethal against unarmored target, it is primarily used by the CRI for material destruction and for dynamic entries. Relatively uncommon, its heavy recoil, muzzle blast and cone of fire restrict its use in nonmilitary situations.
